Calmness

Definitely at Mouth to Hand, I become light. All my life before spelling, I was darkness. I received no education, and school was torture year after year. Actual torture. Being treated for all those years as a stupid person is totally soul destroying.  I am beyond glad that certainly my parents did not give up on me.

At Mouth to Hand, all of us are treated like normal people who just happen to not speak with our mouths. Being treated that way makes us behave that way.  I have no trouble here sitting for classes. I am calm and happy here, so I can control my body more. Anyway, calmness is feeling myself better able to have control. That is like a feedback loop: the calmer I feel the more I can control myself and the more I can control myself, the calmer I feel.

Some day the world will catch up to M2H.

My Freedom

Passover is a celebration of freedom in my faith. Finding a way to express myself is my freedom. I can see the parallels. I am very grateful to my family for a love so big that they brought me to Mouth to Hand. Freedom is defined by many as the ability to live as one wishes absent of oppression from others. Being able to communicate has finally set me free. My wish is to have a voice in this life, starting today.

The Question

Certain things are so exciting that I get hyper. For example, seeing my friends. Coming to Mouth to Hand is thrilling. Being in poetry is my favorite time of the week. Most exciting of all is writing with Judy.  Certainly it still astounds me that I can do this. No way could I have controlled my hand before M2H.

Let me say that still puzzles me. I could not get to the letters I needed to talk until Judy. WTF is with that? It was crazy. It made me believe in magic because she waved her magic letterboard and holy shit! I could spell! You all should have seen it…it was insane!

So what the hell happened from one second to the next? Why I could suddenly spell is a mystery. But I think it’s important that we figure it out because if we knew the magic that Judy has, we could bottle it up, and all of us could spell with anyone.

I still can’t talk to my Mom, for example. I am particularly invested in this question. Clearly there is something about Judy that is different. It has to do with how regulated we get when we spell with her, I think. My mind and body calm down when I am with her. So that’s what researchers need to study.

That question needs answering.
