MUSINGS

By Luke Gilmore

I am not a comedian nor am I concerned with being totally witty. I am not concerned with boosting my ego, or developing groupies. My blog is about my thoughts as a nonspeaker. I think about things deeply. I mull and ponder and ruminate and brood. So I thought it might be of general interest to share these musings.

Noise

Listening to happy noises makes me almost giddy. Walking into M2H, for example, is beyond awesome. Hearing Anne cry out, “Luke Gilmore is in the house!  Gimme a jazz hands a whoop!” makes my heart sing.  Hearing Judy yell “nasty!” during Uno, or Rocco’s “waa waa waa!” make bubbles of laughter tickle me inside. I know our senses are sensitive, and often sounds can hurt. But never these sounds.

It’s awkward to admit it, but I always have struggled with noise. It really bothers me often, and it makes me anxious. That’s why it’s weird that the racket of fun here is not only fine, but my favorite.

The noise of Yankee Stadium prevents me from going to a game no matter how much I want to go. I struggled at the gala last year because of the noise, and there was no place I’d rather have been. So why the laughter and yelling of M2H doesn’t bother me is a mystery. I’m just lucky I guess!  Jazz hands!

As Yogi Berra (one of the most famous NY Yankees of all time) said, "It ain't over till its over." And Yankee stadium isn't going anywhere.
