9/19/2025 3 Comments TypingToday I started to learn to type by myself. It is hard but I can do it. I want to do it because then everyone will see how smart I really am. Also they can’t say that I’m not talking. Being nonspeaking will definitely stink a little less then. And besides, and then I can go to school. Everyone will say “Leon is so smart!”

Hi Melissa. We do not teach typing until a student is fully open on a letterboard. And then we only teach it if the parents and students wish to learn. We do not do anything "rote" like typing sight words, as that is a pointless exercise and does not lead to actual communication. To communicate, a student must be able to "think and do" at the same time...not just do!

Congrats Leon. You are extremely smart and everyone can see that! You should be really proud of yourself and all the hard work you have put in to get you here. Exciting to see what the future holds. My daughter is 7 tomorrow and has just started on the keyboard having been on the laminate board for a while. She finds it hard work and is slower but does enjoy it. Keep up the amazing work. You are inspiring others!
