It has finally clicked. Many people have tried putting boards in front of me throughout the years. None succeeded in helping me. I struggled to put the pencil in even one letter correctly. Spare me your sympathy: already my life is infinitely better. I am finally exactly where I want to be. 

Mouth to Hand is the place. Judy helped me when no one else could. I place my success on her shoulders. Really who gets the credit but the person who figured out how to help me? 

I realize that I still need to work on my spelling with her, but I have the ability to talk now. I can take classes that are fun and interesting. I am learning finally. 

Getting words out is still an effort. Regulation is still my biggest challenge. But compared to where I started, my progress is astounding. I can express myself fully. I can sit in classes. I have the ability to think clearly. I am not the same Jordan that walked into this office two years ago. I am the new and improved Jordan.

]]><![CDATA[New Me]]>Mon, 16 Mar 2026 19:52:18 GMThttps://www.mouthtohandlearning.com/connections/new-meThis year has been the best of my life. I get to spend a whole day at Mouth to Hand. Judy is helping me to perfect my spelling. I am definitely getting better. 

I love my classes: I am learning about poetry, writing short stories with friends, and songs too. (I’m giving my Mom credit for listening to me when I asked her to change my schedule. Maybe I can get her to have me come another day too!) 

I feel really kind of stunned when I think about how much my life has improved since I first walked into this place. I am like a whole new person.

I love having possibilities. Choices are exciting. All my life I had no decisions to make because all were made for me. I love possibilities almost as much as appearing knowledgeable. Having possibilities lets people have power over their lives. I love that we have the power now that we can talk to make choices.

Something has happened to my brain recently.  I think in words now. I noticed it maybe a week or so ago. I used to think in pictures. Since I have been able to talk, I started to think differently. 

That’s more than we were doing in the past. We had wrong impressions of almost everything, in that we thought inside ourselves. Not all of us, obviously, but many of us. We were isolated, so we thought differently. My thoughts were disorganized…utterly chaotic. My brain totally thinks differently now. 

When we start to spell our brains get organized. I can think clearly now. That definitely is exciting and thrilling.
